In the Shade

Hyung a sitting, his back against a tree, reading The Flower Girl in the shade. His long braid was swung over his shoulder, placed there to stop any tree sap from sticking itself amongst his hair. A long time ago, he had learned that washing tree sap from long hair was next to impossible. Well, without cutting it at least. A light breeze rustled the leaves of the tree, his frowning ahoge swung along as well. The breeze was warmed by the blazing sun, heating Hyung even though he was in the shade. He flipped a page in his book, deep into his reading, but also deep in separate thoughts making him zone-in and out of what was going on in the novel.

Soren walked out of the school building, bored. He didnt have another class for a while and just wanted to spend his study hall time outside for once. He adjusted his bag on his shoulder as he made his way to the shade of some trees. The heat was a bit unbearable and he wiped at the quickly formed beads of sweet on his forehead.

Getting close to his usual spot he saw that it was actually already occupied by one Im Yong Hyung, He chuckled, smiling as he walked over to him. "Hey, Hyung." He greeted dropping his bag by his feet. "Mind if I join you?"

Hyung barely glanced up to know who had come to join him. "Hello, Soren," he greeted back, "I you want to, go ahead." Another distraction from his book, but he didn't mind considering the fact that he kept distracting himself from the book. "So, how are you?" he asked, attempting at making small talk, which he wasn't too good at, he mostly relied on others starting up the conversation.

He sat down a little close trying to get in as much shade as possibly. "Good. You?" He said as he looked at the book the other was reading as he picked at the glass underneath him.

"Quite good," Hyung responded, trying to get passed this one line he keeps rereading, "Just attempting to enjoy this book, but," he chuckled lightly, "my mind keeps straying from it."

He nodded. "Yeah, I think it's the book. I did the same thing when I read it." He shrugged and looked around before looking back at the korean. "It's a nice day out..." He said awkwardly, trying to keep the conversation going. He really didn't know how to do the small talk thing and not make an ass out of himself.

Hyung smirked slightly at the other, finally getting past that one line. "Yes, but I do wish it were a little more cool out," he said, trying to push the conversation forward and away from this . . . awkwardness . . .

He nodded. "Yeah." He said as he stretched his limbs out and laid back on the ground looking up at the sky. "So what have you been up to?"

"Nothing much," Hyung said, flipping to the next page, "Just been trying to make it through the year without threatening to hurt someone. How about you?"

"Pretty much the same." He said with a sigh. "One more strike, and I'm probably going to be expelled." He looked over at him. "You want to go get some lunch?"

"Yeah, sure," Hyung said, finishing another page of his book.

"Awesome. What do you like?" He asked as he stuffed his hand into his uniform pocket and pulled out his keys.

"Isn't there a noodle place nearby?" Hyung said, "Unless you want something else." He stood, braid falling back over his should and rested along his back. He held the book tightly, to ensure he doesn't loose it and his favourite bookmark.

He stood as well and grabbed his bag. "Yeah, there's actually a good asian restaurant in town that has good noddles." He said with a shrug.

"Hmm, very well," Hyung said.

"Follow me. My car is this way." He said as he made his way to the parking lot. He stopped in front of an old beat up volvo and unlocked the door for Hyung.

"Some car," Hyung said, sliding into the passenger seat. He knew he shouldn't be on to talk, considering he uses public transportation to get around, but he couldn't help it.

He shrugged and got in on the driver's side. "Get's me from point A to point B without any problems and I didn't have to pay for it." He said as he shut the door and started he engine.

"Anything's fine so long as it gets you from point A to B," Hyung chuckled lightly.

"Exactly." He chuckled and turned around as he backed up and then righted himself and sped off to the restaurant.

He moved down and started to fuddle with the radio, trying to find a good song. "So why were you sitting all alone earlier?"

Hyung looked out the window as the scenery began to pass by, "I don't have much people to hang out with," he shrugged, "not that I mind, plenty of time to read books, more time to concentrate on school, stuff like that."

"I would literally walk out into oncoming traffic is I didnt have my friends." He stated honestly. "Just saying." He turned to look at him. "You know you and me can hang out anytime you want." He offered with a smile.

Hyung just blinked at the window, not sure what to say. He pulled his braid over his shoulder and fiddled with the end of it. He appreciated that Soren didn't mind if he hung out with him, but he didn't know how to express that in words so he drowned it out with silence.

"Or not. Just offering." He said with a shrug, taking the silence as a no.

Hyung placed his forehead on the window, continuing to watch the world outside. He didn't bother to say anything to Soren, maybe it was better to just leave it as is.
